Recent research has identified a number of side effects of the PFizer and Moderna vaccines with rare conditions such as inflammation of the heart - myocarditis, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said there are three rare side effects to look out for.
According to a report by the British “express” website, the US Food and Drug Administration provided new warnings to both vaccine providers and recipients about cases of heart inflammation from the modern Pfizer and Covid vaccines, and the warnings came after the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention met (ACIP) confirmed a "potential association" between myocarditis and pericarditis and Pfizer and Moderna, both of which use mRNA.
But these cases are said to be rare, treatable and usually mild, and the FDA notes that the chance of developing heart infection is "very low."
But recipients of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been warned to "seek medical attention immediately if you have any of the following symptoms."
1. Chest pain
2. Shortness of breath
3. Feeling of heart palpitations
The FDA says that symptoms of myocarditis and pericarditis do not usually appear immediately, but appear within a few days after receiving the second dose.
The federal agency also urged recipients who have had myocarditis or pericarditis in the past to tell the vaccination product.
For caregivers, the FDA says there is an "increased risk of myocarditis and pericarditis, especially after the second dose."
John Greenwood, president of the British Heart and Vascular Society and consultant cardiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, told the BMJ: "Myocarditis is not an uncommon condition and can be associated with many different viruses.
He added: "For the vast majority of people, myocarditis is a benign, self-limiting condition that can be easily treated with NSAIDs. For a very small number of people, it can damage the heart muscle.
The British website GOV.UK indicates very common side effects that may affect more than one in 10 people after receiving the vaccine:
Injection site: pain and swelling
fatigue
Headache
muscle pain
shudder
Joint pain
Diarrhea
Fever
