El-Shahat Ghaturi, head of the Customs Authority, revealed that ports have been provided with 87 modern X-ray inspection devices, which serve as a gateway for checking trucks and small bags. By the end of this year, it is targeted to cover 85% of Egypt’s ports with X-ray devices. This is to ensure that national security or public health is not harmed, and to speed up the time for examination and inspection, in addition to activating the "risk management system release" system.
This came in a statement by the Ministry of Finance, on the results of the meeting of Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, with police Lieutenant-General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher, head of the Sudanese Customs Authority, and his accompanying delegation, which was attended by Shahat Ghaturi, head of the Customs Authority, and Dr. Hossam Hussein, the minister's advisor for external relations.
Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, stressed that Egypt and Sudan share a common history and destiny, and one strategic goals, and that there is great interest in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, by translating cooperation agreements into tangible reality for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples, expressing his aspiration to consolidate economic cooperation. With Sudan during the next stage; Which contributes to revitalizing the intra-trade movement.
The minister indicated, according to a press release, today, Sunday, the Egyptian side's readiness to provide the needs of the Sudanese Customs Authority in the field of training and rehabilitation, and to reduce cases of smuggling through illegal ports.
The minister reviewed the Egyptian experience in modernizing and mechanizing the customs administration system and providing the legislative umbrella for this by issuing the new customs law, proposing the executive regulations for community dialogue with the business community, establishing logistic centers and applying the system of pre-release shipments with an interest in upgrading the human element.
Police Lieutenant-General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher, head of the Sudanese Customs Authority, expressed his happiness with the results of his talks in Cairo, and the complete consensus between the two sides on advancing areas of joint cooperation, especially in the field of training and rehabilitation, pointing out the Sudanese side's keenness during the coming period to develop joint crossings between the two countries. Which contributes to the facilitation and flow of trade movement.
The two sides agreed on the need to maintain the periodicity of the joint customs committee, so that it meets every 6 months or whenever the need arises, in addition to the meeting of officials in the two countries for the joint crossings every two weeks.
The minister explained that we have made great strides in modernizing and mechanizing the Egyptian customs system, by digitizing procedures, linking all outlets to each other, switching from paper documents to electronic ones, and giving them legal authenticity in dealing. In a way that saves time and effort and reduces the time of release.
The meetings of the joint customs committee were held in Cairo in the presence of Shahat Ghatouri, head of the Customs Authority, and his Sudanese counterpart, Lieutenant-General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher, and the mutual administrative cooperation agreement was reviewed for the prevention, research and control of customs violations. The Sudanese side indicated its keenness to facilitate transit procedures Egyptian trucks, and reducing waiting time in Sudanese ports.
Ghatouri indicated the Egyptian customs' readiness to train and qualify our brothers from the Sudanese customs cadres and develop their specialized technical skills through the National Customs Training Institute in Alexandria and Cairo as a regional center for training at the level of Africa and the Middle East, pointing out that the center organized many courses free of charge for the benefit of the business community; Training on modern technological systems and mechanisms applied by the authority.
Police Lieutenant-General Dr. Bashir El-Taher, head of the Sudanese Customs Authority, praised, during the meetings of the Joint Customs Committee, the development and mechanization processes witnessed by the Egyptian customs system, expressing his aspiration to advance trade exchange between the two countries, noting that the Sudanese crossings need to be developed by benefiting from the Egyptian experiences for what It has well-developed crossings.
He explained that work is currently underway on a project to link the Egyptian railways with Sudan. This will facilitate the transportation of goods between the two countries, and lead to reducing the cost of transportation and thus reducing the prices of goods, along with the plan that has been developed to modernize Sudanese ports to integrate with the development witnessed by the Egyptian customs system. In a way that contributes to the consolidation of joint cooperation.
