Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed that many points of the summit of Russian and American presidents, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, scheduled for June 16, have not yet been coordinated.
In a statement to reporters today, Wednesday, Ryabkov said, "The final version of this summit has not yet been agreed upon, and many items have not been agreed upon."
In response to a question about preparing a joint statement by the presidents of Russia and the United States after the upcoming summit in Geneva, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister added, "I am not currently ready to comment on the content of the summit and the content of this statement," noting that there are many ideas and everything is being prepared now and from the past. Too early to talk about anything concrete.
For his part, press spokesman for the Russian presidency (Kremlin) Dmitry Peskov indicated that his country doubts the possibility of adopting joint documents at the conclusion of the Russian-American summit, expected on June 16 in Geneva.
"It is too early to talk about this, there are not yet any documents that have been agreed upon between the two sides," Peskov told reporters today, Wednesday, in response to a question in this regard.
"We strongly doubt that," Peskov added, in response to a question about the possibility of adopting final documents after the Russia-US summit.
And White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki announced earlier that US President Joe Biden will discuss strategic stability, Ukraine and Belarus during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, noting that her country does not expect that things will become easier after this summit.
In a related context, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed his country's regret that it was not yet possible to start a dialogue with the United States on strategic stability.
"Unfortunately, we have not yet launched a dialogue with the United States about strategic stability under the new administration," Ryabkov said in a press statement to the Russian website (Lenta.ru) today.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister added, "Such dialogue was continuing during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, but it did not culminate in agreements."
On the other hand, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that his country is counting on the success of negotiations on resuming the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action related to the Iranian nuclear file, expressing Moscow's hope that there will be no insurmountable obstacles.
"We are counting on the short path, which remains to be traversed until the successful completion of negotiations on restoring the full implementation of the nuclear agreement, not fraught with obstacles and we urge the Iranians to do so," Ryabkov told reporters today, Wednesday, as reported by the Russian "Sputnik" news agency.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that significant progress had been made in the Vienna negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme, noting that it was pointless to speculate when the talks of the participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on this program would end.
