Paris upholds a 30-year prison sentence for Inas Madani for attempting to bomb Notre Dame

The Paris Criminal Court rejected the appeal of the 30-year prison sentence for terrorist Inas Madani, accused of attempting to blow up a car near Notre Dame Cathedral in September 2016.

The court confirmed the verdict initially issued to the 24-year-old woman, but this time with a period of security, according to the requests of the public defender.

In her words to the court, the defendant expressed her regret, confirmed that she had changed and presented herself as a "repentant", and said: Today I am not the same person I was five years ago.

In September 2016, Inas Madani and another terrorist, Ornella Gilligman - who was finally sentenced to 25 years in prison - was arrested with a car containing six gas cylinders in front of the crowded balcony of a restaurant located near Notre Dame, and attempted to set the car on fire.

Inas Madani was also sentenced for attempting to assassinate a police officer while she was fleeing, and she was arrested with a knife in her hand.

At that time, the French police had received a call from an employee in a Parisian bar informing them of the presence of a Peugeot 607 without a registration plate parked near Notre Dame Cathedral, with its hazard lights lit and a gas bottle inside.
