Briefing session of the Arab League on the European Union Action Plan on Human Rights


The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector - Human Rights Department) in cooperation with the European External Action Authority (EEAS) held a video briefing session on the "European Union Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024", which falls within the cooperation program Dialogue 2 launched on July 4, 2018 between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the European External Action Service and the College of Europe.

 

The briefing session was chaired by the Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, and the head of the European Union delegation in Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, in the presence of directors and members of the Departments of Women, Family, Childhood, Development, Social Policies and Human Rights of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, as well as European Commission stakeholders.

 

In a statement today, Wednesday, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh said that the briefing session witnessed a comprehensive summary of the broad outlines of the European Union action plan on human rights and democracy for the period 2020-2024 and its priorities and directions. During the session, the most prominent contents of the "Arab Strategy for Human Rights and Democracy" were presented. Human Rights”, in addition to the efforts of the League of Arab States in the fields of women, the family, childhood and the rights of persons with disabilities.

 

She added that the importance of training and capacity-building was emphasized to respond to the priorities of member states, in accordance with the humanitarian principles and values ​​that underpin the national identity of Arab countries.
