Thabet Al-Batal was born on September 16, 1953 in the city of Hawamdia, Giza Governorate. From his beginnings, he was known for his brilliance in the goalkeeping post and a strong personality inside the penalty area and leading his teammates from behind.


He joined Al-Ahly and started the glowing period in the late seventies, accompanied by his colleague Ikrami, who together for a long time protected the red team's den, which is considered one of the best periods of the club in history, especially since the two joined the national team during many periods and may be one of the few times in which the main and reserve goalkeeper joins Al-Ahly for the national team list during that period due to the close technical level.


Thabet, the champion, retired from football in 1991 after a long period of achievement at the age of 38 and went to administrative work in the Red Fort due to the strength of his character and his great change over the team.


One of his most famous achievements is his leadership of the national team to achieve the 1986 African Cup of Nations, which was held in Cairo after he tackled two penalty kicks in front of Cameroon in the final, which contributed greatly to the Pharaohs winning the title after a long absence, in addition to joining the national team in the World Cup in Italy in 1990.


Thabet Al-Batal worked in the position of football manager at Al-Ahly Club during the nineties and early 2000s, and he succeeded greatly in controlling the players and was one of the most contributors to achieving titles until he left our world at dawn on Monday 14 February 2005 in Cairo, affected by pancreatic cancer.
