The British newspaper "Daily Mail" revealed that Moderna will start shipping the larger Corona vaccine vials that contain 15 doses instead of 10 by late May.
The company said it wanted to increase the number of doses doctors could get in order to vaccinate more people.
Officials emphasized that the largest vials will be sent to health departments in countries by the third week of May, but they did not mention the number of flasks or which countries, as there is some concern about the difficulty of using larger flasks to vaccinate the hard-to-reach population, which will lead to the disposal of some Dosing.
Moderna will begin shipping larger vials of the Corona vaccine to the health departments of countries over the next few weeks, those larger vials will be in the hands of countries by the third week of May, however, it is unclear which countries will receive the largest vials first and how many countries will be Shipped.
The Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company confirmed on April 1 that the FDA allowed two new vials, allowing the first to hold 11 doses instead of 10, and the second was a large vial that could hold up to 15 doses.
In addition, the FDA has now approved storing vaccine vials at room temperature 24 hours after they were removed from the freezer, up from the original 12-hour limit.
We are committed to continually learning and improving to facilitate the use of our Corona vaccine for medical personnel and to speed up immunization programs, said Stephane Bansel, CEO of Moderna, in a statement at the time.
The newspaper pointed out that the company is concerned that the use of large vials will be more difficult to vaccinate hard-to-reach residents such as the elderly living at home, as this may lead to health officials not using the 15 doses and forcing them to throw out some of them.
