A US government report stated that the Corona virus was the main cause or contributor to the death of 377883 in the United States last year 2020, with the death toll especially high among the elderly, according to CNN News.
The report said: "The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analysis found that the Corona death rate made it the third leading cause of death in the United States in 2020 after heart disease and cancer, and that the overall death rate in the United States rose for the first time since 2017. About 16% to 3358814 deaths, and the jump was driven by the Corona epidemic, which represents an increase of 11.3%.
The report found that the overall death rate was the lowest among children ages 5 to 14, and the highest among people over the age of 85. A total of 134 children aged 14 or younger died from the Corona virus in 2020, while 120,648 died. People aged 85 or over due to illness, and people aged 75-84 accounted for 104,212 deaths.
The CDC analysis confirmed that the death rate in Corona was the highest among Hispanics, followed by non-Hispanic blacks, where a total of 68,469 Hispanics died from Corona and 59,871 non-Hispanic blacks died, and it said that 228,328 were whites. Non-Hispanics have died, as the CDC report is based on death certificate data between January and December 2020.
Initial estimates from the CDC, published last month, showed that life expectancy in the United States fell a year in the first half of 2020, the largest drop since World War II, and stood at its lowest levels since 2006.
"CNN" said that the current analysis of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is based on interim estimates of deaths, but it provides an early indication of shifts in death rates.
"It will take some time before the death rate and life expectancy return to pre-epidemic levels," said Mark Gurevich, head of the Department of Population Health at New York University, adding that 2022 will be the earliest time for these trends in mortality to change.
