5 people were killed in an attack by Democratic Forces militia in eastern Congo

Five people, including two women, were killed in an attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in Beni-Mbau, North Kivu (East Kazongo).

Gervais Makofi Bokuca, a local official in the Beni-Mbau sector, said local radio, today, Tuesday, that had it not been for the vigilance of the armed forces and the support of the Rapid Intervention Brigade of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Congo (Monusco), the situation would have been worse. To exercise vigilance and caution and close cooperation with the security services for the return of stability to the region.

It is noteworthy that the ADF is a Ugandan militia that has been active in eastern Congo since the 1990s, and has committed dozens of brutal reprisal attacks against civilians since the army began operations against it in late 2019.

United Nations figures indicate that the Allied Democratic Forces killed about 850 people last year, and about 120 different militias are active on the eastern Congo border with Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, among them many groups that are remnants of the brutal civil wars that the country witnessed and officially ended in 2003.
