Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said that his country still supports the two-state solution, and that there is no alternative to the Palestinians' right to establish their independent state.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Ambassador Nebenzia added, in response to Al-Quds Al-Arabi's questions about settlement activities and demolitions, "Israel's continuation of such actions, such as evacuating people from their homes, is an inhumane act that does not serve peace."
He continued: We are trying to inject life into the Quartet. We have proposed a meeting for it at the level of ministers, in which a number of Arab countries will participate, to assess the issue of settling the conflict in the Middle East.
On the two-state solution, the Russian ambassador said, "There is no alternative to the two-state solution, if we want it to be a permanent solution that meets the hopes of the two peoples. The Palestinians have the same right, not less, than the right of the Israelis in their own state. This is the position of the overwhelming majority of the international community."
