Argentine Diego Schwarzman qualified for the final price of the tennis competitions in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the expense of Czech Tomas Macak, and after a grueling confrontation with Machak that lasted for two hours, Schwarzman decided his qualification to the next round with the results of groups 6-4 and 7-5.
Schwarzman is waiting in the final price for the winner of the match between Australian James Duckworth and Russia's Karen Khachanov.
Japan's Naomi Osaka was eliminated from the women's singles competitions against Czech Marketa Vondrosova, ranked 42 in the world, after losing to her 1-6, 4-6 in the eighth round of the Tokyo Olympics.
Osaka, ranked second in the world, committed 32 unforced errors, compared to only 10 for her opponent. Osaka failed to continue her journey towards gold at home, especially after the farewell to the world's number one, Australian Ashleigh Barty, for the first-round competitions, with a loss to Spain's Sara Sorribes.
Osaka played her match at the Ariaki Central Stadium, which was closed due to rain, but played one of her worst matches against the 22-year-old Czech Marketa, who has only one title in her pocket.
With Osaka's exit, there is no longer a candidate for gold among the top three seed, after the exit of Ashley, as well as the Russian Arina Sabalenka.
While Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the fourth candidate and ranked sixth in the world, will play her match in the same round on Tuesday against Greece's Maria Sakkari.
In the quarter-finals, Vondrosova will face the winner of the match between Spain's Paula Padusa and Argentina's Nasia Podroska.
