El-Gazzar: The Egyptian state has witnessed an unprecedented urban and development renaissance in various fields since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took office.
Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, met with Mrs. Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, who recently assumed her duties in Egypt, to present the Egyptian urban experience, in the presence of Eng. Khaled Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects, and Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure Affairs.
The Minister of Housing stressed that the Egyptian state is witnessing an unprecedented urban and development renaissance, in various fields, since President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi took office, as the implementation of housing units of various types, the establishment of new cities, the development of unsafe areas, and the extension of water and sanitation services. health, and other projects that improve the conditions of citizens and achieve their quality of life.
Dr. Assem El-Gazzar reviewed the efforts of the Egyptian state in providing housing units for various segments of society, in proportion to their income level, and implementing the presidential initiative "Housing for All Egyptians" launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to implement housing units for all segments of society, within the framework of the economic and social development plan. For the state to provide adequate housing for citizens, as well as the state's efforts to develop unsafe slum areas, and to provide adequate housing for the residents of those areas.
The Minister of Housing also addressed the efforts of the Egyptian state to implement drinking water and sanitation projects at the level of the Republic, and to raise the coverage rate of sanitation services in rural areas to 40% since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took office, after it was 12% in 2014, referring to the largest project. Which is currently being implemented in Egypt, which is the presidential initiative "a decent life" to develop the Egyptian countryside and provide various services to about 55 million Egyptian citizens, who live in rural areas.
The minister stressed that the state is currently working on establishing a number of new urban communities, in fourth-generation cities, in order to provide modern urban communities that meet the population’s needs for various services, and achieve Egypt’s first national goal, which is to double the world from 7% to 14%, which is the first output The National Strategic Plan for Urban Development in Egypt 2052, explaining that, in conjunction with the establishment of new cities, the state extended its hand to develop the existing urbanization, to work on solving its problems and enabling it to perform its roles to serve its residents, especially the development projects that have been and are being implemented in the city of Cairo.
For her part, Mrs. Elena Panova, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Egypt, praised the large number of projects that Egypt is witnessing in various fields, which aim to improve the quality of life for citizens, especially in rural areas, expressing her readiness to cooperate fully with the Ministry in implementing these projects.
