North Korean leader: The food situation is critical due to Corona and typhoons

North Korean state media reported on Wednesday that leader Kim Jong Un said his country's economy has improved this year, but called for measures to address the "crisis" food situation caused by the Corona virus pandemic and typhoons that hit the country last year.

The Korean Central News Agency said Kim chaired the plenary session of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, to review progress made in general policies and precise measures to solve economic problems.

The committee set goals and tasks to achieve its new five-year plan, which it set during its previous session in February, which includes increasing the production of foodstuffs and minerals.

The KCNA news agency quoted Kim as saying that the economy in general improved in the first half of this year, with the total industrial output growing by 25 percent compared to the previous year.
