Hariri calls on the government to pay its financial dues to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon


Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri called on the Lebanese government to pay its financial contribution to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and fulfill its obligations in these humanitarian issues of international justice.

 

This came in a statement issued by the Media Office of the designated Prime Minister, today, Saturday, in response to the decision of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon to stop the trial in the cases of the assassination of George Hawi and the attempted assassination of former ministers Marwan Hamadeh and Elias Murr, as well as other issues related to the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his companions. This is due to the inability of the Lebanese state to fulfill its obligations in light of the stifling economic and financial crisis experienced by the Lebanese people.

 

Hariri added that he fears that abandoning the Special Tribunal for Lebanon would be an abandonment of justice and human rights by expressing his opinion and practicing his convictions as stipulated in the laws of the United Nations, considering that stopping the work of the Tribunal would encourage political assassination and impunity in a country mired in a sea of ​​crises. , according to the statement.

 

And he continued, "It is a sad decision that the train of justice has stopped, and we need it most, and it is painful for the reasons to be financial."

 

Hariri called on the Lebanese state to pay its due financial contribution, appealing to the friendly and brotherly countries of Lebanon to provide the financial dues to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon; Because her work would put an end to political murders, establish the principle of non-impunity and promote a culture of justice and defense of human rights and their right to life.

 

The assassination of Rafik Hariri took place - on February 14, 2005 - in the center of the capital, Beirut, and the explosion killed 22 people and injured 226 others.

 

And convicted the International Tribunal for Lebanon - last August - a military official of Hezbollah, called Salim Jamil Ayyash, of committing the crime of assassinating Rafik Hariri and 21 other people.
