Euro 2020 .. a defensive crisis facing France before facing Switzerland in the round of 16

Didier Deschamps, coach of the French national team, is worried about the readiness of defensive duo Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez, as the team prepares to face Switzerland in the round of 16 of the European Championship Euro 2020.

The French team ended the Group F competition with a 2-2 draw, yesterday, Wednesday, against Portugal, who also qualified, accompanied by the second-placed Germany, to the round of 16.

Karim Benzema, the French striker, scored two goals, his first at the international level since October 8, 2015, but the French team was forced to end the match in Budapest, relying on the transfer of midfielder Adrien Rabiot to play at left-back.

Deschamps replaced Hernandez at the start of the second half due to what he described as a minor knee problem, and the Bayern Munich player received a yellow card in the 36th minute.

His replacement, Digne, did not last long, as the French coach revealed in the post-match press conference that the Everton player can now be considered outside the remainder of the competition.

Asked to provide details of the players, Deschamps told reporters: "The most worrying is Lucas Digne."

"He has a muscle injury, he felt a strain in the posterior muscle. It will be complicated (for the remaining matches in Euro 2020)."

He explained, "Lucas Hernandez also has a slight problem, his knee bounced a little. I don't want to take any risks. Unfortunately in the same match I lost the efforts of the players. We will see the position of Hernandez in the next few days."

Deschamps used Jules Conde in the right-back position when he played in a 4-2-3-1 method, however he made it clear that this does not necessarily mean that he will rely on this method in the next match, as the French team meets its Swiss counterpart in the round of sixteen.
