The Lebanese president is asking for help from France and European countries to recover money smuggled abroad


The President of Lebanon, General Michel Aoun, asked the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to assist France and European countries in recovering money smuggled out of Lebanon, stressing that this would help achieve reforms and pursue those who misused public funds or European funds provided to Lebanon, or wasted funds through corruption. Or whitewashing it according to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, "according to the Lebanese National Media Agency.


President Aoun conveyed Minister Le Drian greetings to his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, thanking his constant interest in Lebanon and his eagerness to assist him in all political, social, health and educational fields.


The French Foreign Minister had started the first leg of his visit to Lebanon by meeting with the President of Lebanon, General Michel Aoun, at Baabda Palace this morning, to discuss developments in the formation of the new government, which is entering its ninth month, according to the Lebanese MTV channel.


His visit lasts for two days, during which he will hold meetings with a number of Lebanese officials, and at the end of his visit he will hold a press conference on Friday in which he will announce the results of those meetings.


In conjunction with this visit, the Lebanese Association for Parents of Students in Foreign Universities is organizing a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the French Embassy, ​​according to the Official Media Agency in Lebanon.


This comes after France announced that it had begun taking measures to prevent some Lebanese officials from entering its territory because of their involvement in obstructing efforts aimed at finding a solution to the political and economic crisis in their country.


The site added that Le Drian will hold meetings with officials on Thursday, and according to a memorandum sent by the French embassy, ​​Le Drian requested that meetings be held that included a meeting with President Michel Aoun and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri.
