China announced on Saturday the imposition of sanctions against individuals and entities in the United States and Canada, in response to the sanctions imposed on citizens and groups from China over Beijing's treatment of the Muslim Uygur minority in the Xinjiang region.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that China will impose sanctions on the chairperson of the US Committee for International Religious Freedom, Gail Mansheen, and Vice President Tony Perkins.
China also imposed sanctions on Canadian Member of Parliament Michael Chung and the International Human Rights Subcommittee of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the House of Commons, according to the statement.
